SS19: JW ANDERSON X GILBERT AND GEORGE

Collaborative creativity has been ingrained in the roots of the fashion industry for decades and naturally, designers look to art to inspire their works. While fashion is widely recognised as an art form, both sectors often join forces to help build a more in-depth artistic dialogue. JW Anderson’s latest collaboration is with the iconic anti-establishment figures of British art, Gilbert and George. Gilbert and George stand outside the threshold of traditional definitions of masculinity, which is also something designer Jonathan Anderson is renowned for.

‘For me, Gilbert & George are the ultimate British Modernists and I am obsessed with their work. I really appreciate both the sense of anarchy and order in what Gilbert & George do and in this way it works perfectly with JW Anderson – it’s a marriage of British eccentricities and traditions.’ Jonathan Anderson

The works featured are Guard Plants (1980), Dog Boy (1980) and Heavy (1988).
